INDIANAPOLIS – Coming back from a seven-point halftime deficit, top-seeded Baylor (25-2) forced nine second-half turnovers and held the Wildcats to just 21 points over the last 20 minutes to rally for a 62-51 win in Saturday's Sweet 16 matchup at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
On a day when the Bears struggled from 3-point range (3-of-19), Adam Flagler knocked down two of them and then sealed it with six free throws in the last minute, finishing with a game-high-tying 16 points.
Davion Mitchell added 14 points and Mark Vital had six points and nine rebounds for Baylor, while Jermaine Samuels scored 16 for the Wildcats (17-7).
Villanova, which came in leading the nation with just 8.8 turnovers per game, had only turned it over a combined 12 times in its previous two NCAA Tournament games. But, the Wildcats had nine in the second half alone and 16 for the game, with the Bears turning those into 22 points.
Baylor turned it over just once in the second half and six times in the game and shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the second half, coming back from a 30-23 halftime deficit.
Jared Butler, a Wade Trophy finalist and first-team All-American, had one of his toughest games of the season. He scored nine points, hitting just 1-of-9 from 3-point range and missing all three free throws, including a one-and-one late in the game.
Advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2012 and the third time in the last 11 tournaments, the Bears will face either third-seeded Arkansas or 15th-seeded Oral Roberts in Monday's region final for a spot in the Final Four. Baylor has not made it to a Final Four since 1950 when it was an eight-team tournament.
