Georgia’s spot in the SEC Championship Game has seemed to be a foregone conclusion for most of the 2021 season. Now, it’s official.
The Bulldogs clinched a trip to Atlanta when Kentucky lost at Mississippi State on Saturday night. Earlier in the day, Georgia rolled past Florida in Jacksonville, 34-7. Kirby Smart’s team now has a two-game lead on Kentucky with two games to play. Georgia holds the tie-breaker by virtue of its win over Kentucky earlier this month.
Georgia ties Auburn in 2004 and Alabama in 1993 for the earliest any team has wrapped up a spot in the SEC title game.
Georgia will be making its ninth appearance in the SEC Championship Game. The Bulldogs are 3-5 in their previous eight trips.
