COLUMBUS – Greetings from the Ohio State press box. The underdog Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes just finished their pregame warmups at Ohio Stadium.
James Franklin’s 20th-ranked team is a 19-point underdog to the No. 5 team in the country and Penn State is also 2-12 in against the Buckeyes in Columbus since joining the Big Ten. Franklin is 1-6 vs. Ohio State and the hosts have won the last four meetings.
Here are a few notes.
Miranda, Scruggs back at their old spots. Penn State’s offensive line struggles, particularly in the run game, likely prompted the coaching staff’s decision to have Mike Miranda and Juice Scruggs flip-flop spots during the second half of the loss to Illinois at Beaver Stadium last week.
Miranda moved from center to right guard and Scruggs moved one spot to his left and took over at center. Miranda was back at center in warmups with Scruggs at right guard.
Lee in uniform, no Ford. Penn State’s running back rotation will be without Devyn Ford for the second consecutive game. Ford left Penn State’s loss at Iowa with an undisclosed injury and hasn’t played since.
Keyvone Lee, who started against Illinois, did warm up. He left the loss to the Illini with an apparent lower-leg injury after carrying seven times for 24 yards.
Buckeyes missing Teague. Penn State’s defense should have his hands full with Ohio State true freshman runner TreVeyon Henderson tonight.
Henderson, a five-star recruit in Ryan Day’s 2021 class, has run for 693 yards and accounted for 14 total touchdowns. But the Buckeyes will be without veteran back Master Teague, who has run for 245 yards and scored three touchdowns. Teague ran for 110 yards and a touchdown in Ohio State’s 38-25 win over Penn State at Beaver Stadium last season.
