Kansas Jayhawks maintain second spot in both polls - Sports Illustrated

flickdoco.blogspot.com

The Kansas Jayhawks got two wins by the slimmest of margins against the Oklahoma Sooners and the Iowa State Cyclones last week, but that wasn't enough to gain any ground on the Houston Cougars in either poll. The Jayhawks stayed in the second spot in the poll ahead of Purdue and Alabama for the second straight week.

The polls this week agree on each of the top 12 teams, as UCLA, Gonzaga, Texas, Xavier, Tennessee and Virginia round out the top 10. Iowa State moved up to #12 in each poll, with Kansas State, TCU and UConn rounding out the Top 15 in the AP Top 25 and TCU, UConn and Kansas State slotting in those spots in the Coaches Poll.

The Huskies, losers of 4 of their last 5, took the biggest tumble this week, dropping nine spots in the AP Poll and 7 spots in the Coaches Poll.

The Big 12 had six teams in the rankings this week, with the Baylor Bears jumped back into the rankings at #21 in the AP Poll and #22 in the Coaches Poll. The only other Big 12 team earning votes this week was Texas Tech, who is still receiving three points in the Coaches Poll.

The games between ranked teams come early and often this week, with the Big 12 leading the way. On Tuesday, #2 Kansas travels to #13/#15 Kansas State and #7 Texas travels to #12 Iowa State. Wednesday has #22/#20 Providence traveling to #20/#18 Marquette. On Saturday, #14/#13 TCU travels to Lawrence to face #2 Kansas and #5 UCLA travels to #11 Arizona.
