First Mission rallied to collar Arabian Lion in the stretch and win the Grade 3, $400,000 Lexington Stakes on Saturday at Keeneland, but Disarm also was a winner, as the colt earned a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate by finishing third.

First Mission, a Godolphin homebred trained by Brad Cox and ridden by Luis Saez, secured a position on the rail out of the gate and tracked the Bob Baffert-trained Arabian Lion through early fractions of 24.12 and 48.01 seconds, as Prairie Hawk pressed the leader from the outside.

As Prairie Hawk dropped back entering the far turn, Saez asked the 3-year-old son of Street Sense for more and began to edge nearer the front runner.
First Mission caught up with Arabian Lion in the outside at the top of the stretch, but Saez switched him back to the rail when the leader drifted out and got past inside the 16th pole to secure the win.
Running time was 1:43.78. The winner paid $6.38 on a $2 win bet.
Cox said afterward he would likely target the Preakness Stakes on May 20 for the colt's next start.
Disarm, who was in 23rd place entering the race, secured 6 Kentucky Derby qualifying points with his third-place finish, enough to push him into 18th place on the Run for the Roses leaderboard.
