The Oyster Bar on Central Avenue is relocating after being a staple on the lively nightlife block for nearly 25 years.
The seafood restaurant will close its 249 Central Ave. location on Aug. 20, according to a media release. It will then move to another spot in St. Petersburg, which the Oyster Bar did not reveal yet.
In the space where the Oyster Bar has been in since 1999, a “pop-up bar” by the Crafty Hospitality Group will open on Sept. 1.
The space will have new interior decor, food and drinks menu and props for social media photos. It’ll start with an end-of-summer theme that will “remind guests of a northern U.S. fall with the leaves changing and cool air settling in,” said Frank Clemente, the creative marketing director of FrankLynn Visual Marketing in a statement, who will help design the space.
When a pop-up bar concept wraps up, the location will close for 48 hours to build another one in its place. There will be four seasonal concepts for September, October, November and December, the release said.
That particular block in downtown St. Pete known as the entertainment district has “evolved” and relocating would better suit its customers, Oyster Bar ownership said. But the new location won’t be far from the original.
“Our goal is to relocate the Oyster Bar to better serve our diners, but the pop up concept will be a lot of fun in that space,” said owner Josh Cameron in a statement. “We’ve loved every minute of our tenure on the block. We really appreciate all the love over the years.”
