SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Pitt baseball (27-22, 13-13) clinched a spot in the upcoming ACC Tournament (May 24-29) for a second-straight season for the first time after defeating No. 8 Notre Dame (31-11, 15-9) 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium. The victory was the sixth of the season for the Panthers over a top-10 team (two each against then-No. 5 Virginia and then-No. 5 Louisville and one at No. 4 Miami).

The Panthers got on the board first. Brock Franks led off with a single to right field, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Jordan Anderson and scored on a single to left field from Jeffrey Wehler.

Pitt added to its lead in the seventh inning. CJ Funk drew a one-out walk, and Franks hit a one-out single to left field. Pinch-hitter Dom Popa laced a double down the left field line to knock in pinch-runner Josh Overbeek from second base. With two outs, Tatem Levins smashed his team-leading 14th homer over the centerfield wall.

The Irish notched a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the inning.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. for a "Backyard Ball" matchup at PNC Park against in-state rival Penn State.
