TOWSON, Md. – Following another dominant victory by topping Australia, 17-2, in the semifinals on Thursday night, the United States has advanced to the gold medal game at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship.

The U.S. has now reached the title game in all 11 world championships held since 1982.

Team USA will face Canada on July 9 in Towson, Maryland, at 12 p.m. ET. The game, which will be a rematch of the last two world championships, is set to broadcast on ESPN2.

Seeking its fourth-straight title on Saturday, the U.S. has been the most dominant team in women's world lacrosse championship history. Team USA has won eight of 10 titles, bringing home the gold medal in 1982, 1989, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2009, 2013 and 2017. The only times the U.S. failed to win the championship were 1986 and 2005, finishing as the runner-up to Australia on both occasions.

North Carolina players impressed in Thursday's tilt with Australia to help the U.S. secure a spot in the championship game. Molly Hendrick ('17) and Emily Parros ('13) both scored a goal with Parros also recording three draw controls.

For the third game in a row, Ally Mastroianni ('21) had a game-high four draw controls while Caylee Waters ('17) made three saves between the posts. Marie McCool ('18) tallied an assist to bring her point total up to 21, the most by a Tar Heel thus far in Maryland.

Team USA, which enters Saturday's game undefeated, squared off with Canada during Pool A play on June 29 in the championship opener. McCool had a hat trick – her first of four so far – during that matchup and Parros picked up three points from two goals and an assist.

Current UNC player Brooklyn Walker-Welch, who is representing Canada, will battle head coach Jenny Levy's squad on Saturday after narrowly defeating England by an 11-9 score during the semifinals. Canada has been the runner-up to the U.S. the past two world championships and will be seeking its first-ever gold medal.

Rising senior defender Emily Nalls had a game-high three ground balls in England's game with Canada. She and Team England will play Australia on Saturday with the bronze medal on the line.
