This past weekend, Nelson stopped the clock in a season-best time of 7.16 to win the 60 meters at the Razorback Invitational. That time currently ranks third on the NCAA descending-order list and tied for the sixth fastest in the world this year.
Nelson opened the 2022 indoor campaign with a win over 60 meters (7.19) at the Cougar Classic.
The Montego Bay, Jamaica, native is one of three UO women ranked among the top 30 nationally at 60 meters, along with Jadyn Mays (12th – 7.27) and Jasmine Montgomery (30th – 7.35).
At the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, Nelson became the third Duck to win the 60 meters, joining English Gardner (2012) and Hannah Cunliffe (2017). In winning the NCAA title, Nelson ran 7.05 to break the collegiate record previously shared—at 7.07—by Cunliffe and Aleia Hobbs (LSU).
Named for legendary Oregon head coach Bill Bowerman and first awarded in 2009, The Bowerman is presented annually to the top men's and women's performers in collegiate track and field. Five Ducks have won The Bowerman, a list that features past UO greats Galen Rupp (2009), Ashton Eaton (2010), Laura Roesler (2014), Jenna Prandini (2015) and Raevyn Rogers (2017).
The updated men's watch list will be announced Thursday.
Oregon is back in action Feb. 11-12 with the Windy City Invitational in Chicago. In addition to the Ducks, the 10-field team will include Arizona, Howard, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, South Florida, Tulsa and host Wisconsin.
