SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Union College women's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back as the Dutchwomen cruised to a 54-40 victory over fifth-seeded Rochester Institute of Technology in the first round of the 2022 Liberty League Tournament on Tuesday night at a packed Viniar Athletic Center.

Junior Megan Lee led all players with 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, her third straight double-double and her seventh game in a row scoring in double figures. Classmate Olivia Pachla just missed a double-double with eight points and 10 boards to go with two blocks, while senior Darby Leid chipped in 10 points and six caroms as well for Union (13-12).

Playing in front of its largest and loudest crowd of the season, Union exploded out of the gates on Tuesday, hitting five of its first six shots and forcing three RIT turnovers to take a 10-0 lead 2:44 into the contest. Pachla and Raisner had four points each during the opening run, which the Tigers never were able to recover from. The Dutchwomen limited RIT to 4-of-13 shooting and outrebounded the visitors 15-5 in the opening frame, taking a 17-11 lead after 10 minutes.

RIT got within five early in the second stanza thanks to a Kaleesha Joseph three-point play, but Lee hit a layup on the next possession and a subsequent three by senior Anna Metcalf bumped the lead back up to 10 with 6:28 left. Leid capped the quarter with another trifecta to send the home team into the locker rooms with a 31-20 edge.

Union essentially sealed the victory with a strong close to the third quarter, outscoring RIT 9-2 over the final 6:20 to take a 43-26 lead into the final frame. Leid gave Union its largest lead of the night by starting the fourth with five straight points to put the home team up 48-26 less than two minutes into the period, and the Dutchwomen were able to cruise the rest of the way.

The Dutchwomen came up big on the glass, outrebounding the Tigers 51-32, including 21 offensive boards that led to 18 second-chance points. The home team also posted a 14-0 edge in fast-break scoring, as the team fed off the crowd to get easy transition buckets.

Union will ride its seven-game winning streak into the Liberty League Tournament semifinals, where the Dutchwomen will travel to top-seeded and national #23/24 Ithaca College. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. Check UnionAthletics.com in the coming days for more information about the matchup.
