NEW ORLEANS, La. – West Texas A&M dropped to 24th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, following the organization's announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
In their last outing, the Buffs recorded their first victory of the season as the Division I competitor Texas Tech at the Big Country Festival in Abilene. WT went 3-4-5 in the season opener led by senior Innocent Murwanashyaka running 18 minutes, 39.6 seconds followed by Butare Rugenerwa and Gustavo Posada.
The Buffs were one of seven teams from the South Central region represented in the Top 30 with Adams State leading the national standings followed by Colorado School of Mines in second. Colorado Christian ranks seventh followed by Western Colorado (9th), UC-Colorado Springs (14th), WT (24th), and Colorado State-Pueblo (30th).
WT returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, for the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock.
