BEAUMONT, Texas - The NM State men's tennis team is another step closer to a WAC regular-season title.

NM State maintained its spot atop the WAC standings thanks to a 5-2 victory over Seattle U Saturday morning at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on the campus of Lamar University.

The Aggies extended their season-best winning streak to four matches with their latest victory and also hiked their 2022 mark to 9-12 which includes a perfect 4-0 showing against league competition.

DOUBLES
• Putting the wraps on a perfect weekend, the reigning WAC Doubles Team of the Week Gijs Akkermans and Corey Clarke got things started for NM State with a 6-3 triumph in flight two action. With their win over Michael Frank and Filip Stipic, Akkermans and Clarke moved to 11-6 and 4-0 in league bouts.
• After Akkermans and Clarke posted their fifth-straight doubles victory, NM State's top-flight tandem of Louis Menard and Jordy Visser sealed the doublers point for NM State. They wore down the Redhawks' pairing of Julian Worn and Veselin Kiselkov down the stretch, coming up with a hard-fought 7-5 victory.
• Menard and Visser wrapped up their match moments before Itay Feigin and Martin Simecek did on line three. Unfortunately, Feigin and Simecek found themselves on the wrong end of a 7-6 neck-and-neck showdown against Billy
Givens-Jensen and Oliver Hall.

SINGLES
• Once one-on-one play got going, the Aggies made quick work of the Redhawks to clinch the match. Visser got things started in flight six play by coming up with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Hall.
• Just one point separated NM State from victory after Clarke handled Kiselkov by a 6-2, 6-3 tally.
• Menard clinched the match for the Aggies in top-flight action, picking up his team-leading seventh-straight one-on-one win. The Frenchman's 6-1, 6-4 victory against Worn pushed his singles mark to 9-5 on the season.
• NM State's final point game on line five thanks to Akkermans. His 7-5, 6-4 win over Lars Schmassmann hiked the Aggies' lead to 5-0.
• Seattle U busted up NM State's shutout bid late, generating wins on lines two and four. Simecek started strong but faltered late in his 0-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) loss to Stipic in flight two.
• Feigin suffered his second WAC singles setback, coming up short in a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Frank in flight four play.

COMING UP NEXT
• NM State will enjoy a break of nearly two weeks before making a run at the 2022 WAC regular-season title. The Aggies travel to Abilene, Texas, on Saturday-Sunday, April 9-10, where they'll take aim at the league's regular-season crown. That pivotal stretch begins Saturday with a neutral-site bout against Lamar.
