Wheeling, W. Va. - On Monday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coach's Association (USTFCCCA) released their weekly Atlantic Regional Rankings. For the second week in a row, the Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team was featured among the region's top 10 teams. They moved up one spot this week to number fifth, scoring 346.37 points as a team. The men were consistently in the top 10 during Indoor season and have started the outdoor season reaching the top 10 in two of the first three weeks.

The Cardinals competed at the IUP Ed Fry Invitational this past Saturday and, after setting several PRs in the first week of the year, the Cardinals came back and turned those into first place finishes. The team won four gold medals, three on the track and one on the field. While there were no team results at the event this past weekend, it was another step forward for a Cardinals team that is searching for their first Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championship in program history. With several of their athletes achieving top marks in the conference in terms of both height and distance, they are taking a step towards accomplishing that goal.

Their lone gold medal in the field came from sophomore Andrew Taylor in the Men's High Jump as he earned his first win of the season. Coming into Saturday's event, Taylor posted the top height in the MEC at 2.00 Meters in his first event of the season. He set the bar even higher this time around, jumping to a height of 2.05 meters to win the event. His mark leads the MEC by .10 meters with the second closest jumper being Taylor's teammate Brian Vandusen at 1.95 meters. Taylor leads all other competitors by .15 meters and has created a steady hold on that top spot in the conference in the event.

On the track, Wheeling picked up a trio of gold medals, with the 4x100 meter relay team getting things started. The team of Jabez Reeves, TJ Tindal, Daimar Ivey, and Julian Griffin finished the race in 43 seconds to take the top spot. Two members of that relay team, Reeves and Griffin finished the day with the final two golds for Wheeling. Reeves won his in the 400-Meter dash, finishing with a time of 49.27 seconds, and Griffin won the 110 Meter Hurdles, completing the race in 14.70 seconds. The four wins were Wheeling's first four wins of the season as they look to build off that effort moving forward.

The Cardinals were the second highest ranking team in the MEC on the list behind the University of Charleston, who took the top spot in this week's rankings. In total, four total teams from the conference made the list with Concord (7) and Glenville State (8) also making the list. With two more weeks of competition between now and the 2022 MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in early May, Wheeling looks to keep racking up the wins and climbing the weekly rankings.

The Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team will split up this week with two different events. The multi-event athletes will compete in the Mondschein Multis on Wednesday and Thursday while the rest of the team will head to the Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday and Saturday.
